4 months old

Mariella had her 4 month check up yesterday. She's doing well, but she was in rough shape all day. For starters, her very nice brother shared some sniffles with her and she had a pretty uncomfortable-looking case of diaper rash. So she wasn't exactly a bucket of sunshine when we got to the doctor's office. In true sibling fashion, however, Jacob was on his best behavior and was both a good helper and a patient onlooker.

She got a couple of shots and developed a fever later in the day, and spit up when I gave her some medicine, so I don't think it did her a lot of good. Add to that her stuffy nose and difficulty nursing, and she was not a very happy camper. She gave some good screams when I attacked her with the nose aspirator (mean Mommy). Luckily, she got a few good stretches of sleep last night, meaning I got some sleep too, and this morning she was acting more like herself.

Back to her checkup, she is doing great. She's growing, and becoming very active and social. She rolls and turns herself--very fun to watch, but not so fun when she does it at night. It's disrupted her sleep for the past week or so. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon. I tried the sleep positioner to thwart her nighttime adventures, but that just made her mad. Great, another child with a strong will. Her other recent activities include grabbing and shaking toys, and putting everything in her mouth. She enjoys chewing on toys or blankets, but really loves her forefinger or thumb. Or her whole fist. She's really not too picky.

As for her growth, she is still wearing a lot of 3-6 month clothing, but she can fit into some 6-9 month outfits. Here are her measurements from yesterday:
Weight: 15 lbs. 6 oz. - 85% (this was on an empty stomach, as she for some reason refused to eat before we left the house. If she'd eaten, she may have been closer to 16 lbs.)
Length: 26 in. - 97% (and no, they don't count her giant wave of hair in that measurement)

Here she is in all her sweetness:

Chins are good when they are on a baby. So cute!

Hey puppy, smell my foot!

As always, we need the tipping over picture

Jacob's stuffed animals. And his baby sister. It's kind of like that scene from E.T.
