Out with the old, in with the new

Mariella: clapping is so last month, but tooth #8 is in as of 11/16/09. I missed which day the cup became trendy, as it was pretty gradual, but in the past couple of weeks she has definitely figured out how to pick up a sippy and actually drink from it instead of just chew on it.

Jacob invented a new game where Mariella is a monster or dinosaur (it varies by the minute) and he runs away from her. Sometimes she crawls after him, other times she gets distracted by a toy or object that does not belong in her mouth. It's pretty funny to see him and Daddy run and hide from the "monster": our sweet little baby girl who is usually screeching with giggles as she "chases" them.

So we don't forget, from Jacob: When you see an "ambalance" it is always going to the "hosibal." When looking at his truck books, do not mix up an "exavator" and a backhoe, or he will correct you with a tone of "you really don't know anything, do you?"

Dr. Mommy

Jacob has been very into playing with his doctor's stuff lately. He always wants to be the patient. Today, he brought his thermometer to me and said, "Dr. Schoenbauer, you need to take my temo-pempsher." It's so cute when he tries to say big words.

8 months old

What does our little 8 month old do all day? She usually starts each day by greeting me (or Daddy if he's lucky) with a big smile, standing up in her crib. When she knows she's going to be picked up, she starts to bounce. After getting a change, she starts to get wiggly in anticpation of going to see Jacob. She absolutely adores her big brother.

Other things she does: crawls like a speed demon, pulls up on anything she can reach (furniture, toys that can fall on top of her, walls, people), takes some cruising steps when she's feeling especially brave, cackles with delight if you work to make her laugh, gets into all of Jacob's toys (much to his disapproval), and soaks up everything around her. If she's in a new place or a "stranger" is holding her, she will stare intently until she's satisfied that she has seen it all. She's become quite the mommy's girl, but she still loves her daddy. She will only let him hold her facing out, though. Without fail, every time he picks her up, she squirms to be turned out within 3 seconds.

She has also made great strides in her feeding. She's eating a few tablespoons of food at a time, and can feed herself small bits of table food. So far, she has tried pancake and crackers. She will spit out puffs and cheerios, though.

She loves her teddy bears. She's pretty easy to get to sleep (as long as Mommy is around). She's not sleeping all night yet, but is showing progress. She likes music and staring at the leaves as they fall to the ground. We love everything about her.

Experimenting

I need to learn how to use our camera's manual mode. I had a chance during Jacob's nap to work on a few settings. I'm not sure these are ideal, but I had to start somewhere. The focus is a bit off, but they're still cute. Mariella tried to be cooperative, though she isn't into sitting still so that made it challenging.

The start of a sneeze

I like her little tongue in this one. I don't like the red dinosaur coming out of her face! Next time: pick up the toys before experimenting.

Photo shoot over, time to eat the camera!

Mariella's Baby Dedication

Mariella's baby dedication ceremony was on October 25, 2009. Her godparents are Uncle Ty, Uncle Chris, and Aunt Kati.

Sitting with Ty and being very entertaining before church

Standing up in front of everyone. Notice that she is with Ty...

...she got very squirmy and was passed down the line to Mommy

They use a white rose and water in the blessing

With great-grandparents Kuehn, checking out grandma's necklace

With Grandpa and Grandma S.

With Grandpa and Grandma B.

Mommy and Daddy, Uncle Chris, and Uncle Ty (Kati was unable to be there, unfortunately!)

Jacob got a present too. He was so excited to get Mack to add to his collection.

Cake and centerpiece, white rose included

Looking pretty in her dress, and staring down the fake plant

It's hard to crawl in a dress!

It gets stuck under your knees

Playing with Uncle Ty again. We think he might be wrapped around her little finger.

Changed into more comfy clothes and hanging with Uncle Chris.

Halloween 2009 (part 1)

MOMS Club Halloween party 10/21/09
There were lots of fun activities for the kids. They got to decorate their trick-or-treat bags, eat some healthy (and non-healthy) snacks, play games, and frost cookies. The babies had lots of fun trying to pick up everything off the floor that the older kids dropped. It was an adventure in keeping plates safe and crayons out of mouths.
Mariella, the little angel. She's been such a stinker lately that I thought dressing her up like this might rub off on her.

She was fascinated by the skirt. It was sparkly and just long enough to get in her mouth.

Here she is asking her friend why she's not wearing a costume. These two are 5 days apart in age!

Most of my pictures are of Mariella, because Jacob was so busy running around with the other kids that half the time I couldn't even find him in the bunch.

I got this one funny-looking picture of him doing his trick-or-treating. We were supposed to do it outside, but it rained that day. Just like every other day in October.

For those keeping track

Tooth #6 - 11/1/09
Tooth #7 - 11/2/09

That makes 3 new teeth for Mariella in the last week. No wonder I'm seeing so much of her during the night lately. This continues her streak of needing to "beat" Jacob at nearly everything. After checking the official stats, I discovered he sprouted his 7th tooth at 9 months, 2 days. She will be 8 months old tomorrow.

She is going to be ready for some Thanksgiving feasts later this month! At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if she's cutting molars by Christmas. Nothing says "Christmas Cheer" quite like a fussy, teething baby.
