Jacob was just diagnosed as having a hernia. We'd noticed a golf ball sized lump in his groin over the past few weeks, and decided it better get checked by his doctor. He's not in any pain, but we have been referred to a pediatric surgeon because it needs to be corrected. His surgical consult is on Friday, and after that we will set a date.
Mommy and Daddy are nervous about this, but we're relieved that the lump wasn't something more serious. It sounds like this is a fairly common condition among children. The link below has information about what it is and how it will be treated.

As you indicated, this is pretty common, so we have to assume everything will go just fine. Jacob is only 3 1/2 so I can imagine you are pretty nervous. As Grandpa and Grandma, we are, too. Good reason for us to spoil him just a little bit more!
